Alan Gibson
Alan Gibson joined policing in Scotland in 1994 and progressed through a range of roles and ranks in operational policing, specialist firearms, mountain rescue, training, corporate governance, community policing and counter terrorism.
In 2018 Gibson took up a leadership role within Specialist Crime Division, holding responsibility for the people portfolio, the International Bureau, the Fugitive Unit, the Serious & Organized Crime Disruptions Unit and Crime Strategy.
Gibson took up post as the Divisional Commander for Forth Valley in 2019, holding responsibility for the day-to-day policing operation for over 300,000 citizens in the central belt of Scotland.
In 2023 Gibson took up post as the Head of Learning, Training & Development for Police Scotland and currently leads learning and development for the organization’s 23,000 officers and staff.
Ancillary to his core role, Gibson is an experienced Strategic Firearms Commander which has seen him oversee numerous dynamic firearms operations, multiple Royal, diplomatic and Presidential visits, and the safe delivery of the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow in 2021, which saw the attendance of over 120 world leaders.
In 2016 Gibson graduated from Session 64 of the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police program in Boston, Massachusetts.
In September 2024 Gibson graduated from session 47 of the FBI National Executive Institute and was formally recognized for his contribution to international policing collaboration.
