UVA SCPS is proud to partner with the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) to offer a noncredit* course that prepares students for the SHRM-Certified Professional or the SHRM-Senior Certified Professional certification exams to earn highly valued industry credentials.

In this class, you will:

  • Learn content and strategy from seasoned HR professionals and SHRM exam preparation experts.
  • Gain confidence in your ability to meet the challenges of the SHRM exam and pass on your first try.
  • Benefit from live instruction, class recordings, interactive discussions, hands-on practice tests and coaching, which help you understand the nuances of complex human resources situations.
  • Build relationships with colleagues in your industry and learn from one another’s experience.
  • Understand the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (BASK) competencies model, which defines the standards for HR professionals globally.
  • Receive exclusive discounted pricing to SHRM’s online Learning System, which forms the basis of the exam. This cost is included in the cost of the class.

See All SHRM Certification Requirements: SHRM’s certification website details all requirements to earn the CP or SCP credential.

How it Works

This class is offered twice a year, in the fall and spring – immediately before the SHRM testing windows, so students can complete their learning and be confident when they take their SHRM exam.

Classes meet one evening a week for live sessions with the industry-expert instructor. Attendance is not mandatory, but is strongly encouraged as students benefit from discussing concepts and test strategies with the instructor and fellow HR practitioners. Synchronous (live online) sessions will be recorded and made available to students on a weekly basis.

Students have access to the complete collection of online learning modules in the latest SHRM Learning System to complement their in-class learning.

* Students may take this class for credit & earn an elective towards the Leadership in Human Resources Graduate Certificate

Students may take the prep class on a not-for-credit (NCBM 410) or for-credit (HR 5112) basis. When completed for credit, students satisfy 3 elective credits towards the SCPS Leadership in Human Resources Management Graduate Certificate. Students may enroll in HR 5112 without applying to complete the full graduate certificate.
