David Huchler
Chief David Huchler served with the City of Alexandria Police Department for 26 years before being appointed to chief of police for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority in April 2018. Chief Huchler began his career in the Alexandria Police Department as a patrol officer, steadily moving up in the ranks to the position of deputy chief. Chief Huchler has used evidence-based policing to maintain safe communities and has a wide breadth of experience having held positions or overseen all functions of the police department.
As the Airports Authority chief of police, Chief Huchler oversees a department of more than 275 staff who deliver outstanding customer service at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport and the Dulles Toll Road. The law enforcement responsibilities in addition to the security mission at the Airports Authority require significant coordination and collaboration with local, state and federal partners.
Chief Huchler is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and PERF's Senior Management Institute for Police. Chief Huchler holds a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and a master’s degree in public administration from George Mason University. He also serves as an adjunct professor in George Mason’s Department of Criminology, Law and Society and is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
