Joosep Kaasik

Undersecretary for Internal Security, Estonian Ministry of the Interior

Joosep Kaasik has worked as the Deputy Secretary for Internal Security since 2023.

He has previous management experience in both the public and public-legal sectors. He has worked in the field of internal security for 28 years, 19 of them managing up to 1,400 people. During his career, he has been involved in several reforms and changes in the police system.

Previously, Kaasik worked in the Police and Border Guard Board the Deputy Director General for Development and Prefect of the Northern Prefecture. His managerial career also includes working at one of the biggest universities in Estonia, at TalTech, as the Director of Administration.

Kaasik has gained international experience as the head of a regional unit at the European Union police mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, in 2017, when Estonia held the presidency of the Council of the European Union, he led the EU working group.

Kaasik has a broad-based education. He has obtained two master's degrees from Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), majoring in administrative management and information technology, and has a master's degree from the European Police College (CEPOL) in international police cooperation.

Kaasik also has experience as a lecturer; he has been a guest lecturer at the Academy of Security Sciences on security and law enforcement topics and has published both at the Academy of Security Sciences and CEPOL.

Kaasik's hobbies are continuous self-improvement and hobby sports.
