Kara Ramirez Mullins

Kara Ramirez Mullins (LinkedIn) is the Chief Advancement Officer at the National Geographic Society, inspiring transformational philanthropy and driving strategic partnerships, comprehensive fundraising efforts and special events for the organization. Mullins has overseen growth of the advancement division and three recording-setting fundraising years, in addition to securing the largest single gift ever made to the Society. Mullins has 25 years of fundraising and external relations expertise, including as vice president for advancement at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. Mullins has served in leadership roles at various Washington, DC-based organizations, including the Brookings Institution, The Phillips Collection and the National Gallery of Art. 


Mullins earned a bachelor’s degree from Marymount University and completed graduate work at Georgetown University. In June 2018, Mullins graduated from the Executive Program at the Darden School of Business.
