New Scholarships in Support of Federal Workers Amid Downsizing

Opportunities aim to make education possible for those facing challenges

In its mission to make education more affordable, accessible and achievable, University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies is pleased to announce new scholarship opportunities for federal workers facing unexpected challenges resulting from administrative changes.

Scholarships are available for students applying to the School’s summer 2025 term, including bachelor’s degree completion programs, professional certificate programs and the Master of Public Safety degree program. Award values will range from $500 to the cost of two courses for the summer term. By providing these scholarships, the School seeks to ensure students can achieve their education goals and gain skills, experience and knowledge that will open doors in their career and their future.

“As a school that has a long history of providing high quality education to adults, we understand that their education journeys typically include more challenges than that of traditional students. Our mission is to reduce as many barriers as possible, so that adult learners have the greatest chance of success. We know this is a challenging time for many federal and private industry workers, and through these scholarships, we hope to welcome students who might not have otherwise been able to pursue their education.”

Eligible individuals must apply by the summer application deadline of their desired program: 

  • April 1, 2025 for the Master of Public Safety and professional certificates programs
  • May 15, 2025 for the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Bachelor of Professional Studies in Health Sciences Management degree programs

In their chosen program, School of Continuing and Professional Studies students are further supported by replete student advising and career resources offerings, including educational advisers, industry-specific coaching, student success coaching, technology support, and career resources that assist job seekers in understanding the job market and leveraging their skills in it.
